Re: Durban
watched England play football there, there were "locals" outside the stadium selling sticks!

Stayed at the Riverside though, nice hotel, shared with all the En lot of media types, Martin Tyler, Craig Brown, lan Shearer, Alan Green and some others were there

including Garth Crooks. The others seem to have the same opinion of him as we all do, was always sat on own

Re: Durban
Was there for the cricket world cup in 2003. The place seemed to have an 'edge' it but can't say I saw anything.

A 'new' marina area was supposed to have been redeveloped by now. I expect that will be a decent part of town.

Just do the sensible things. Keep to the tourist trap areas and take taxis at night etc.

Went to Durban during Apartheid, great place then but I'm sure it's an utter shithole now, oh and the Rand then was on par with the pound

Mr P - Ag!

One of my good mates has lived there for years and she's tiny and blonde, if she can survive out there than anyone can (Apart from Mentor)

The Rand is shite against the £ as well so a great time to go out there.

As with most places in SA, it's fine as long as you're sensible and don't go to iffy areas. Stick to the city, that's all you need. It'll be lovely - very tropical at this time of year.

Re: Durban
According to a Saffa colleague of mine who has just returned from Durban a couple of weeks ago said as long as you are in the city, where the ground is, you'll be fine.

Steer clear of travelling to resorts or areas outside of the city at night unless you are in a group, there are still incidents of the 'Xenephobia Killings' that were rampant earlier in the year ... typically blacks against blacks though.
